2025 Community of Human and Organizational Learning 31st Annual Conference

Investigating outcomes is an essential practice for increasing organizational learning. However, many investigation reports read like an action sequence from a Michael Bay movie starring clueless workers and bad decisions, instead of the dramatic tales filled with rich context, numerous performance influencing factors, and organizational issues that they are. In the first session, we will examine storytelling tools that have been proven to mitigate bias, increase empathy, and support organizational learning. In the second session, we will practice using these tools to turn an incident scenario into an immersive opportunity for learning by creating compelling characters, a captivating plot with meaningful conflict, a vivid setting, and a satisfying resolution.
